Projection mapping, also known as "video mapping" or "spatial augmented reality", is used to project an image onto a surface witch often has an uncommon shape. These shapes might be buildings or custom made installations or screens. These visual effects are often combined with audio to create an audio-visual immersion.
In the second year of my studies I was assigned a team of 4 people. We had to build a project that would promote my direction at the beginning of the academic year in Brussels (Belgium). Together we managed to complete the project in 12 days.
Our project (alpha-projections) was not the only project. 2 other teams where building their project as well. Our goal was to make it all work together as a whole to symbolise the different departments from our school working together.
While working on this project I got so excited about what the end result would look like that I worked from morning till evening or even at night. I learned a lot of things while I creating the structure with my team and also while creating the animations we would project on the structure. It was very interesting to learn how the programs works to map the animation on the structure so it would fit perfectly. When we showed our end result to the teachers and the crowd I felt that there was a lot of magic in the air and everyone enjoyed the performance. Our team was happy, The teachers where happy and the people where curious and kept staring at the animation. Some other students came to us and told us that they wanted to to the same. Then I realised that I wanted to do more with it. I started looking for a new project and a company to do Internship.
